FSSR 9629 C30-7 second of three units on RCP&E MHURC-01

I met a Westbound RCP&E MHUTR-01 (mixed freight Huron, SD to Rapid City, SD) earlier this evening and it had the FSRR C30-7 #9629 that was on my train out of Tracy, MN Thursday. The unit is restricted to trailing status only.

Those screens you mentioned on the windows are apparently for rock protection. I've only seen them on GE's so far. This unit have any particular destination?

Many Ferromex units including EMDs have them too. Kinda neat for something different visually.

I believe it is run through power, as when I had it out of Tracy, it was online and providing power,plus the paperwork does not state anything other than trailing status only. That unit sure sounded great in 8.
