TOP 10 Importers USA 2014

As per Journal of Commerce June1 2015 listed below are the top 10 importers by TEU's for 2014

1. Walmart              775400 TEU'S
2.Target                  521300
3.Home Depot         342400
4.Lowes                  249000
5.Dole Foods           199600
6.Sears Holding        179000
7.Chiquita Brands     171000
8.Heineken               149700
9.Samsung               147400
10 Family Dollar        135100

For every 5 Walmart brought in there was 1 Heineken ?   Damn...

No kidding.  I knew Heineken was huge (and now owns brands you'd never connect with them, like Dos Equis, Newcastle, etc.), but never realized just how much they import.  Makes sense, though - doesn't look like they actually brew anything in the US.

Dale, do bannanas still come in via bulk to Long Beach, or is that containerized now? I am talking about the ships that used to (still do?) unload at either Pier B, C or D on the Inner Harbor.

I believe most banannas move by container--the Dole ship calls San Diego---I know at one time and it may still be banannas were unloaded at Port Huenume  Dale Smith

Thanks. I remember seeing what I thought was a Chaquita boat near the 710 which would have been pier B, C or D. That was back in the late 80's early 90's.

TEU equal 1ea  20' container but most containers are 40'.  Therefore the actual number of containers is about half the TEU number..
Most of you know that already..maybe some new folks dont.

Container ships are also rated in capacity by TEUs'
