Tier IV Demos on the Front Range Yesterday...
Author: FrontRangeTrains

Yesterday, I received a phone call while on break at work from John "SP8595" regarding the GECX Smurf Humpbacks going up the BNSF Front Range Sub north out of Denver in the afternoon on the E MLTNAM 077A. After getting updates from a couple of people, I was able to catch up to the train not too far up the line; and was able to provide John with some intel as seen down below :] It was another busy day on the Front Range with Denver throwing out coal empty after coal empty. I love having this traffic here, but it does create a mess with trying to shuffle trains around, especially in dark territory (TWC).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  • Two of General Electric's ES44A6's lead coal empties through Legion Park in Boulder, Colorado.
  • Two more of the Demo units bring up the rear of the coal empty with the Valmont power plant in the background and the city of Boulder.
  • The same train is seen stopped along side the Diagonal Highway at Gunbarrel between Boulder and Longmont.
A couple more...

  • Three BNSF GE's are seen on the point of the Denver, Colorado to Laurel, Montana manifest that is seen being tied down in the siding at Longs Peak between Berthoud and Longmont.
  • It's just after sunset as the GE Smurfs finally head north through Highland near Longs Peak.
  • Two more GE Smurfs bring up the rear as the train rounds the curve into Longs Peak from Highland.
Thanks for looking!

Great shots - I didn't figure there would be much light left by the time they got up to this neck of the woods, too bad it takes Denver so long to spit out trains, a couple of hours earler would have been nice... === === = === JLH
