Western Railroad Discussion > Trains p.16 photo of an EMD tier 4 demoDate: 08/28/15 10:30 Trains p.16 photo of an EMD tier 4 demo Author: nygiant Finally some news, not much at that, about EMD's tier 4 progress. They got some use out of SD90MAC #92. How long has that unit been at LaGrange? Serious carbody changes from the '70 series.

Date: 08/28/15 12:47 Re: Trains p.16 photo of an EMD tier 4 demo Author: Entropy It would appear to me this hood is used during testing only. EMD has a few test units (well known), EMDX 90, 91 and 92.
Still keep looking around the usual places. Date: 08/28/15 21:33 Re: Trains p.16 photo of an EMD tier 4 demo Author: Fizzboy7 This has got to be the longest stretch of no new EMD's...

They knew about the upcoming regulations and took no action, GE knew and did... Date: 08/29/15 01:32 Re: Trains p.16 photo of an EMD tier 4 demo Author: MitchGDRMCo Plenty of people knew about Tier 4 at EMD, EMD just didn't have the money it needed early enough to do anything about it until CAT bought them.
Date: 08/29/15 09:07 Re: Trains p.16 photo of an EMD tier 4 demo Author: nygiant EMD was working hard to meet tier 4 with the 710 and it did except it was fuel hog, so they had to drop that project which put them a good year and a half behind. Assuming the 4 cycle V12 meets tier 4, wonder what the hp rating will be? By the way this engine block is a 12-1010J3 designation for the V12 265H.

How long has that unit been at LaGrange? > Serious carbody changes from the '70 series. EMDX #92 is the former SD89MAC test unit and is fitted with the Caterpiller C175-20 prime mover for test purposes. This unit is the mechanical testbed for the F125 "Spirit" passenger service locomotive and is the reason why it has the full width carbody. EMDX #91 one of the former SD90MAC-H II test units and is the unit modified with the 12-1010J prime mover for test purposes. This is the mechanical testbed for the Tier 4 replacement of the previous SD70ACe. Bryan Jones Brooks, KY Bryan's Train Photos |
