Crossing the Smoky Hill Trail

The UP totes a collection of covered hoppers along the KP. As they round the curve, they are leaving the Smoky Hill Trail which goes on straight across the highway and up the hill. The brown spots along the ROW is where the old highway alignment used to be as it followed the rails around the curve into Lake Station. The elevator in the background is in Limon, CO, about 5 miles away.
