Blue/orange/green power on BNSF Kansas local
Author: JoCoLB

The BNSF Spring Hill local had a colorful power consist today when it approached the Johnson County, Kansas town south of Kansas City. More amazingly, it had four engine units.

The train was pulling 34 cars when it arrived at Spring Hill.

These pictures were taken in a construction work area on the Fort Scott Sub. where 10 miles of an all-new second main is being installed, along with a new industrial siding. These pictures were captured about 1 mile north of the downtown business district in Spring Hill, on a heavy overcast day. An extremely light mist was falling when I snapped the photos.

Here's a photo of the train when it first appeared rounding a curve north of my location. The train had come out of Kansas City.

Here are some more random scenes of the construction work taking place along the present-day single main in the Spring Hill community.

Here are more random photos at Spring Hill, including one of the BNSF local preparing to work an industrial mini-yard. This segment of single main will not be tied up with such switch work in the near future following completion of the second main and long siding at Spring Hill. Main line traffic is expected to flow smoothly with two mains and one long spur siding.

Here's a photo of an old work equipment siding which will soon be torn out. I'm guessing it will be relocated far to the left. New earth that holds compaction better reportedly will be dumped into the large hole that has been dug the past few days.

Good stuff, Larry.  Three GP50s, the last with the extended cab, and a rebuilt, to SD40-2 standards, SD45-2.

Your coverage of this project has been interesting and worth reading.  Thanks for posting.
