Belles at 'Belle'-vue!
Author: santafe199

My long time friend & fellow 80’s KS Gangster Bob Helling, aka “PRose”, was giving the monthly presentation for the Topeka Chapter NRHS boys last night (Feb-12) and he invited me along. Of course I’d never pass up the chance to attend a good friend’s “slide show” where I would be able to sit in the back and throw rotten eggs at the screen if the need arose. And I’m deeply honored in the absolute knowledge that Bob would be only to happy to do the same for me. It’s part of why we’ve been good friends for so long…

He picked me up in mid-morning and we made our way east along railfan highway US 24 between Manhattan & Topeka. Crossing up & over the KP (UP) mainline at Belvue we spotted a headlight to the east. Bob reversed his trusty RAV4 and we scampered back to the Camp Creek Rd crossing where we bagged a couple of KCS Southern Belles in command of the unit tanker below.

Turns out I could save the rotten eggs for some other time: Bob gave a great showing of Amtrak locomotives & paint schemes, and how they’ve evolved over the past 40-some years.

1. KCS 4187 & 4052 lead a unit tanker underneath the US hwy 24 overpass just west of Belvue, KS on February 12, 2016

Thanks for having me along!

Nice catch, Lance.  How long before those trees start to blossom out?

(TOO dang long! :^/)   Probably see some budding in 3-4 weeks.
It's that beloved time of the year when pitchers & catchers are already at work, new grass is on the way up and in about 6 weeks that time-honored sound:

"PLAY BALL!"

will be echoing all around the land...

Thank you, Ronda & the rest of you guys! I may not always say so, but compliments are appreciated.
And Frank: I think "Spring Training weekend" has been my new Christmas morning for some years now...
