Saturday on Tehachapi (not much traffic, but ex ATSF GP7u!)
Author: GeoAndy

As another poster mentioned, it was a bit slow on the hill yesterday with virtually nothing in the a.m., increasing toward the afternoon. The highlight of the day was ex-ATSF 2109 trailing 3 UP units, on its way to?

Apologies as I haven't figured out how to get train symbols.

1) Westbound BNSF C44-9W 4157 heads past Marcel Rd with a stack train just before noon.

2) Westbound merchandise led by UP ET44AC 2575 enters Tunnel 10 as the double tracking project continues.

3) UP 2575 heads past Walong as flash unfortunately shows off reflective stripes.

4)  UP 8020 heads into tunnel 2 with nearly 2 miles of empty auto racks

5)  Winding through the fields of green, orange, and purple as helper 8915 shoves the rear.

6) UP 2642 struggles with a long merch train and a surprise in tow.

7)  Ex ATSF 2109 now BUGX 1322 en route to...?

8) UP 8746 pulls a stack train through Tunnel 2

9) BNSF 8077 approaching Monolith cement plant.

10) Previously seen 2642 and GP7u head south (timetable east?) out of Mojave.

11) Helper 8753 on the end close out the day. For some reason this train had prioirity over everythig on the hill, even stack trains.

The GP7U was the lease unit up on the NWP until recently.

Nice series and good catch on that GP-7 which is still in pretty good shape!

Strange to see a pair of DPU's on the rear of that UP train, usually those trains run with three mid-train DPU's.

How many trains did you get in daylight?

Makes you wonder how many trips it made over that same trackage, when it was a Santa Fe unit in revenue service.
