Trio of new UP 9000's NB on the Austin Sub
Author: PALuvR

Wow, what a difference a day makes. Today I saw 8 trains (if you count UP 8508 peeking through the trees) in 4 hours. The first one was a loaded rock train through Manchaca at 07:55. Still pretty shaded but after yesterday, I was afraid to pass it up. Train #2 was an empty grain train NB at Bergstrom followed by #22.

1. Led by UP 6711 (ex-CNW 8809) and followed by UP 7308 (C6044AC) and UP 6796 (C44AC)
2.  Leader is another C6044AC
3. NB Texas Eagle

Next through was a special move of some sort given the short train with a buffer car. I moved to the Blanco River bridge between San Marcos and Kyle to wait for those new SD70AH's.

4. Special move with plenty of power
5. Just barely squeezed in all the power in this shot
6. UP 9017, 9018 and 9019 on their maiden trip north of the border

Hays County used a very appropriate replacement for the old bridge washed away in last summer's flood. Next stop was in San Marcos where I shot these CEMEX loads passing Texas State's Bobcat Stadium. On the south side of San Marcos, I shot MSAFW (sort of) with UP 8508 peeking through the trees. It had come out of the Jama yard and was waiting for a "green" to move from Main #2 over to #1 and head north.

Next I moved down to Centerpoint Rd. to catch the SB off the Lockhart Sub that had been waiting on Main 2 to cross over onto #1 and head south. It turned out to be 3x2 grain loads with a CSXT unit as part of the DP.

7-9. SB grains loads on Main #1

Last three are just some miscellaneous shots. The pile of new ties as well as some track equipment in the Jama yard might explain some of the traffic delays.

I appreciate y'all taking a look. I feel much better today than after the 2 previous days. It had been cloudy and/or rainy for the past 7 mornings. Amazing what the morning sun does for one's outlook on life.

Very good stuff as always. A little heads-up the 1996 ( SP Heritage) is in the area. It went South on a loaded grain, so it should be headed back this weekend. If I can get a good report of it's location I will pass it along.

Interesting car shots as well.

Neat bridge and always nice to catch new units.  Moveing around really paid off on photo ops for you.

Are those SD70AH's being built with Tier-3 credits or whatever they call it? As Tier 4 standards have taken effect....

Mike,

Great shots as always! Glad to know the bridge is open again over the Blanco River.

Have you been to the bridge over Onion Creek just north of Buda?

Here are a couple shots I took there awhile back.

Yes, I've been there but never taken any shots. Wasn't sure how they would turn out since it's almost straight up. Your shots are pretty nice so I may have to give it a try. Thanks.

Yes, they are T4 credit units.
