More BNSF rebuilds/potential rebuilds interchanged at Sidney, NE
Author: Sterk

BNSF GP50s 3179 and 3140, along with GP60Ms 152 and 140 arrived at Sidney, NE on Union Pacific's North Platte, NE to Sidney, NE local on Sunday, April 24 for interchange with the BNSF. The units were in the UP Nampa, ID yard two weeks ago, as seen here:

http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?1,4005574

In that post it was mentioned that BNSF 3140 and 3179 are now being sent to Alliance, NE for "repair and overhaul". Does anyone know how they will be routed to Alliance? Also, BNSF (x-C&S) SD40-2 1868, had been in Sidney for two weeks sitting on the siding near the feed store. It was added to the other four units along with more empty coal cars after they were dropped off at the interchange point. Is it also headed for Alliance?

Everything pictured was picked up by the BNSF today, Tuesday, April 26.

Nice catch. #1 makes it look like a strange set of mid train helpers ;-)

Don't see why the routing for the GP50's wouldn't be straight north via Bridgeport
and the Angora Sub to Alliance.  Fastest way.  Wonder why they went to Boise.

Nice catches.  It is good to see these units staying in service.  I too would have thought Bridgeport would have been the routing.

Looks like the local brought them to Sterling since that's where I saw them this morning. Probably go on a Denver - Edgemont to Alliance...

That's great to see the old C&S showing through on the SD40-2 as well as the old Alliance and Interbay maintenance base references on it as well.  I'm guessing that's its original paint given the C&S references weren't added much past about 1980 or so.

Thanks for sharing the photos with us.

All four engines are still in Sterling as of 4/28.   140, 152 are suppose to go to Denver on the H-LAUDEN1-28a (suppose to get in early AM on the 30th).  3179, 3140 are suppose to go to Alliance on the H-DENALN1-30a (so the 30th).
