NWP #1501 (Ex-SP SW-1500 nee 2694) leaving KCS for NWP next week
Author: weather

The NWP 1501 is getting a couple wheels turned this week and might ship by the end of the week. The ex SP 2694 and former UP 212 It will go from KCS to UP in Kansas City and then to North Platte and on to Roseville before heading to NWP rails. The lease is up on two former NWP locomotives the ex GN GP-9, 1922 and ex ATSF #1322 which is now working for the Santa Maria Valley R.R. if anyone see this unit in transit, please feel free to post. Its Back to the Future for NWP as SW-1500's  and a few MP-15 roamed all over the railroad from Eureka to San Rafael. Here is #2539 with 12 cars of Russian River gravel on the 1.8% grade at Cerro on the approach to the Puerto Suello Hill tunnel in the summer of 1975.  Mike Pechner, NWP Operation Lifesaver.

It's an MP15, not an SW1500, and I don't know if any MP15's ever worked the NWP before.

I don't know if they made it past there, but I photographed MP15s at Napa Junction/Lombard at least twice in the 70s/80s. Of course, there were only twelve of them.

Question: if both the 1322 and 1922 are gone, will the NWP be able to manage with just two units, or will they acquire something else?

Another unit, an SW-1200 is being readied to join the 2009 and the 1501.  Thanks for the correction for the MP 1500.

An SW1200? Really? Sweet! What about the "other" MP15DC?

Genset 2009 from R.J. Corman was bought outright by NWP and stays.
