EMD SD70ACe-T4 Demos at Roseville
Author: jimB

The two demo EMD Tier 4's 1503 & 1502were parked on the ready track at Roseville Yard most of the day. No trespassing was necessary.

Third photo is of the new style truck.

UP 1995 also came through in consist on a Westbound intermodal while the sun was behind a band of clouds.

That looks like the best roster shot posted yet.

I hope you can get some good action photos including some down on rooftop views.

Is that a radial truck?  Fred

Yes it is. A very similar steering mechanism to the previous generations of HTCR truck, just a fabricated frame and new design of steering beam attachment. The bearing adapters, coil and rubber springs, and dampers are all the same parts as the previous design.

A brief look inside Progress Rail at Muncie with a F125 Locomotive for Metrolink, and one of the second batch of SD70ACe-T4 locomotives in UP colors, but with EMD lettering.

News reporter says 40 F125's are being built and 200 T4's. UP is getting 65, who is getting the rest, 135 units? Haven't heard of any other orders.

Cat won't drop the EMD name, it would be like Coke being called something else.

According to some announcement late last month, Cat will be "dropping" the name "Electro-Motive Diesel", and that name is already being physically removed from the main building in McCook. The "EMD" will still be retained, but apparently like "CSX", will not actually stand for anything.

Just a heads up that the Demo units passed NB through Dunsmuir around 9 pm Saturday night.

There was quite a bit of radio discussion about how the trackside scanners were dealing with the passenger car being between the lead and second demo locomotive, with more power behind them. They moved out of town pretty quick, the engine noise was notably louder than more recent locomotives.

Darn! I was hoping they would put them on the MRVSJ if they were free for a day. (I didn't expect it). We need some excitement in the South Bay.

They ran the power up while it was on the ready track and it didn't sound too loud - sort of a raspy sound. There was other power running, so it was a little hard to isolate the sound, and also my ears aren't what they used to be. There was more visible exhaust than I expected to see.

Yes Charles, retirement adds a great deal of flexibility to train chasing!
