Found this old news paper clipping about a precursor to the Sweet Home/Foster Oregon Electric branch. This would have been OE's attempt to build it's own line up the South Santiam River Valley. But an agreement hashed out with the SP saw OE trains running over the SP line to Lebanon instead.

Another one, the unfinished line over Hogg Pass, would've been interesting. Even though in today's economy it'd have almost no reason to exist. Same with the OE line to Dollar. That region can only handle one line with what is left for customers. Riding the steam train to Detroit / Idanha would've been an experience.

Remnants of the uncompleted line exist at the top of Santiam Pass. Clearly visible from highway 20.

Do you remember whereabouts? I will have to keep that in mind next time I am up there.
