The Sand Wildfire in Calif and a few Train Photos
Author: miralomarail

I thought I would see , If I could get some photos of the Sand Wild Fire which is close to Todd , the Webmasters House, by driving over to Palmdale this afternoon.

The Smoke was super thick in Palmdale, I drove up to the Metro Link yard in Lancaster, and all trains were tied down as the tracks to LA were/ are closed.

Just before I lost the Sunlight, I took the Last photo over by Palmdale Jct

As of 11PM Sunday night it was at 33,000 Acre's and growing with at least 18 Homes gone as the US Forest service and The LA County Fire Depts , assisted my many other Fire Dept's are on the attack , as I drove home this evening down Interstate 15 , I could see More Fire Trucks headed North up the I-15 for Battle

Last night the actual distance travelled by the fire was 35 miles in a line!

Any word on if any freights are being detoured on the Coast Line Route.
Or will UP send the freights over the Bypass?

Well guess we needed a math lesson here but who cares about how square it would be? Bet those who are in the way of it could care less.

The few UP freights that this is affecting are going via West Colton. Nothing is using the Coast.

I heard a freight coming down the Soledad Canyon line through Canyon Country past Sand Canyon, I believe, Sunday evening. I was surprised to hear it as Metrolink had shut down through Soledad Canyon due to the fire. I did not expect any rail activity as I was hearing water dropping helicopters over my house all evening. I live about 5 blocks from where the fire started on Friday. The Soledad Canyon line is on the opposite side af the Santa Clara river, which is usually dry, from my house which is 3 blocks from California Highway 14, a busy freeway here..
