As of July 2016 the current active total liner trade capacity was 20,734,302 TEUs aboard 6,110 ships including 20,292,205 TEUs aboard 5.172 fully cellular ships. Over the last 12 months global fleet TEU capacity surged 5.3 per cent on a gain of 1,034,540 TEUs in active liner capacity and a net gain of 89 ships in the fleet

The top ten fleet operators control 69 percent of the global market  14,190,319 TEUs in capacity with 53.9 percent chartered. The top ten fleet operators have 185 ships on order totalling 2,293,470 averaging 12,400TEUs per ship
