NS Barcode Appearance On The BNSF

It was a warm day in Ritzville, WA on the BNSF Lakeside Sub with a high-low of 84-56. Traffic was so-so today. Did manage to catch NS 1111 rolling thri the backyard. Here are some of the trains from today and yesterday.

1. BNSF 477432 GN Heritage Hopper rolling in WB 350pm grain train.
2. WB 430pm manifest train with BNSF 3846-3944 on the point with DPU and a friendly wave from the hogger.
3. WB 451pm manifest train with BNSF 7691-5335 on the pull with friendly a toot-toot from the hogger.

4. Old Santa Fe Buffercar on WB 506pm coal train.
5. EB 523pm coal train with BNSF 6046-5943 and CREX 1306 on the pull with DPU.
6. DPU BNSF 8570 on same coal train.

8. Another shot of bar code unit NS 1111 on same train.
9. WB 1127am manifest train with BNSF 5042-3937-7971 on the pull.

10. The End of same manifest train fading away.
11. EB 1216pm manifest train with BNSF 7833-7509-6608 on the point.
12. EB 1229pm coal train with BNSF 6116, CREX 1407 and BNSF 6137 on the pull with DPU.

13.  DPU BNSF 9034 on same coal train.
14. WB 205pm grain train with BNSF 5094 on the very point with DPU's at Bauman Rd., Ritzville and friendly waves from the crew.
15. DPU's fading away towards downtown Ritzville.

17. Another shot of older MAC BNSF 9847 on same coal train.
18. WB 447pm coal train with BNSF 6305-6093, CREX 1429 and BNSF 8559 on the point with DPU and a friendly wave from the hogger.

I call it "15" or the "F" unit.  Bet you're wondering where I got that.  Actually, it's not barcode but it's 1 1 1 1 but everyone knew that.  In Binary that equals 15 decimal and in Hexidecimal it "F".   Numbers in the hexidecimal system are 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, A, B, C, D, E, and F.  That's 16 "numbers", hex=six and decimal=ten, thus hexidecimal.

In binary the digits are 0 and 1.  The columns are, from right to left, 1s, 2s, 4s, and 8s.  Since each of them are ones and not zeros, you add the value of the columns, 1+2+4+8=15 and the 15th digit, excluding the zero, in hexidecimal is "F".

 Number 1000 in binary would be decimal 8, or Hex 8.

Anyway, nice catch.
