I believe I've heard that single door bag cars are being scrapped, but double door bag cars are being kept around as backups and to be available in case of heavy pallet shipments, which the new cars are apparently not well suited for. As a small correction, Elkhorn Slough is just arround the curve south (SPRR East) of your Amtrak shot. The train is actaully at the old SP station of Hudson's Landing, where flat-bottom skows used to pull up with their goods.
