Western Railroad Discussion > The famous K-177 overpassDate: 09/29/16 13:53 The famous K-177 overpass Author: santafe199 There is a spot in Kansas that is not well known in the broader, overall railfan world. But along with us native Kansan railfans and those of you who have ventured up & down state highway 177 chasing the Santa Fe (now BNSF) mainline through the heart of the Flint Hills will recognize this spot right away. But this particular view may be a bit of a departure from the usual shot taken a couple hundred yards further south up the highway at the top of the hill. In fact this is a wide angle shot I never thought about trying while out chasing around in my Santa Fe 70s & 80s.
In those fondly remembered older times this girder bridge was painted black. And it was adorned with a prominent, block-lettered “SANTA FE” splitting a pair of classic circle-cross emblems. Just as God & Uncle Cyrus intended… 1. & 2.
