Listened to that whistle growing up in Rialto.

My Dad worked in the shops.  Mom and I would pick him up in the car after work sometimes.  Sure in barren now.

The area where the shops were at is part of the San Bernardino Intermodal Ramp.
The City of San Bernardino, before they went bankrupt, was trying to do some urban renewal in the area which is why you see some empty lots.

Funny you say you remember that whistle...when I left LA and moved to Knoxville I was around the old Coster Shop and they had a whistle for shift change...I freaking lost it when I heard it the first time thinking the 611 was coming through town...this was 23 years ago...
