Amtrak in the Freeway - Alhambra CA - 10/16/16

Last Sunday I met a friend on one of the freeway overpasses for a shot of the detouring Amtrak Southwest Chief. Had it been a couple hours later it would have been nicely lit, but still a cool image of an Amtrak in the frewway. Wish I'd gone out to shoot the Sunset Limited more back in the days that it was running this same route (20 years ago).

The 510 just got rebuilt in Beech Grove and is heading to LA for service.

That's some serious street running, almost.  It could cause some serious problems without those barriers.

That trackage has been there, in one form or another, since I-10 was built in the 50's. Trackage was part of the Pacific Electric San Bernardino line when it was built.

Here is another train in the middle of the San Bernardino Freeway back in the 1960's

​Too bad this train has derailed. I think this was the Freeway Flyer as the sign said in
the caboose. The train actually was the State Street Local from Baldwin Park.

I had this picture sent to me over 20 years ago as an 8X10 with no caption on the back

Any Idea who is the photographer ?
