Western Railroad Discussion > A classic location on Donner PassDate: 10/24/16 09:50 A classic location on Donner Pass Author: UP9000 In early September, I was on Donner Pass, where I was able to capture this image of a long eastbound drag at American. For me, it doesn't matter weather it's SP or UP, the scene it's self is classic.

Date: 10/24/16 10:08 Re: A classic location on Donner Pass Author: mojaveflyer I'd prefer red and gray but it's a classic shot, regardless! Thanks for sharing.
James Nelson Thornton, CO www.flickr.com/mojaveflyer Date: 10/24/16 10:40 Re: A classic location on Donner Pass Author: FiveChime I'd perfer numerous Black Widow painted F's but a few gary and red's mixed in would be OK.
Unforunately, those who would perfer Cab Forwards on the front at this location are getting to be fewer in number. Regards, Jim Evans Date: 10/24/16 11:22 Re: A classic location on Donner Pass Author: BoilingMan This spot has no formal name anymore, but in old (really old) timetables it was Gorge. There was an operator here during the days of staff signaling, I don't know when it was removed and eventually disappeared off timetables forever.
SP MoW guys I used to hang with in the 80's called it Rocky Point, or Rawhide Crossing (using the grade crossing just east of here as a reference. I've also heard it called Casa Loma, which is actually a small cluster of cabins up the hill from here. But it is not American. American, the overlook made famous because passenger trains once stopped to give patrons a look over the edge, is about 3mi east of here. The trees have overtaken American today, and it's unrecognizable from early photos. SR BTW- I live about 3 RR miles west of where you shot this.
