1st Annual "Northwest Turkey Shoot"
Author: nomosantafe

I revisited a Thanksgiving tradition yesterday.  I celebrated the First Annual "Northwest Turkey Shoot".

When I lived in Cleveland (1993 - 1998), every Thanksgiving, the Forest City Chapter of the Railroad Enthusiasts would meet at Bob's Big Boy for breakfast and a morning of foaming at Berea Tower (I think they still do). We called it the "Turkey Shoot".

In honor of that tradition, in 2005, I started my own version called the "Texas Turkey Shoot" and posted pictures here on Trainorders.

Now that I am retired, this will become an annual tradition in Portland, Oregon.

Here are the links to the previous year’s Thanksgiving posts.

A nice set of photos in the rain,I like them as they have a good 'feel' to them.     Z 8 Looks good but I think there is to much 'distance' between Engine & Tender,  I wonder if you can get the coupling closer ??

For us flat-landers in Texas that bridge is a very  imposing structure.  Very nice layout.

Help me out since it's been a long time since I've been to Vancouver. In pictures 8 and 9, is that the north end of the B yard? With the new(ish) 39th Street overpass in the background and the new bypass off to the left with the covered hoppers and tank cars?

Thanks and nice gobblefoaming!

It is a scale model of the Crooked River Bridge in Central Oregon north of Redmond.  We obtained a set of plans from Burlington Northern and one of our members built it.  The only thing not to scale is it's height.  This bridge is 24 inches above the river, a scale 174 feet.  The real bridge is 340 feet above the Crooked River, making it 47 inches above the river on our layout.  It would be clear up to the ceiling.

Here's a shot of the real bridge

2.  BNSF taken 6/26/12  This was the grand Prize photo in the 2013
