Yesterday I caught some switching, a ballast train, a manifest and the Amtrak carrying a Siemens engine headed for Seattle (thanks Todd!).  I had my old Nikon Series E 70-210 f/4 zoom on my D7100, which precluded some close up shots but allowed good ones from a distance.

1. Jumped out of my car and snapped the CORP Yoncalla Switcher running past the Eugene Amtrak Station on the WP track.

2. Another shot of the two GP38-2s.

3. A long work train waiting in the yard by Bethel Drive

Next up is everyone's favorite Black Widow GP9, the PNWR 1801!

1. and 2. Next we were greeted by a manifest freight heading into the yard from the South, led by UP 2538.  Location is about a half-mile away from the last photos.

3. Here comes the Amtrak Coast Starlight at same location.

What really distracted me was the ballast train that was working on the Coos Bay line that connected to the UP. 

1. Heading back into the yard after setting the switch

2. The power for the ballast train, a GP38-2 and a GP15-1

3. Moving all the way back on the Coos Bay line with crossing protection

Those Siemens engines--with the big "X" in the middle grate area--make me want to call them "X Boxes" or "X Engines."

Thank you for the very enjoyable and fascinating set of photos. I was surprised to see the logs tagged before they went to the mill. Inventory control I imagine.

Don't know. They load the logs directly from the trucks to the rail cars about a mile to the north. Fun to play with the old zoom lens. It is only an f/4 but it shoots very sharp wide open - fifty bucks on ebay!Thanks for the feedback.
