asm transitdocs  dot com LIVE AMtrak AMap shows
Train 14 MOVING north at 12:49PM at 0.9 MPH at DELTA CA siding.
DELTA is located at MP 296 area on the Dunsmuir CA to Redding CA mainline.
Dunsmuir is at MP 321 and Redding CA is MP 256..
I belive it WAS Moving north at about 11 MPH befor the map updated.
This info on Weds 12-7-16 posted at approx 12:56 PM PT

To the best of my knowledge, this is how it played out.

Delayed an hour or so at Berg by a broken rail. Somewhere along the way, they lost an engine and limped to Lakehead. They didn't have to wait too long for the next southbound UP train to bring them an engine.

During or after the engine swap, a problem developed with the switch at Lakehead. That delayed them even longer waiting for a maintainer.

Once the train was back together, they had air problems. Presumably with the power. Once that was resolved, the crew didn't have enough time to continue north and had to wait at Lakehead for a relief crew from Sacramento and a UP pilot crew. The pilot crew showed up first since they came out of Dunsmuir.

Amtrak relief crew came out of Klamath Falls, Ore. Another relief crew is called out of Portland, Ore to relieve the crew from Klamath Falls.

Fair enough, it was the dispatcher who said the relief was coming from Sac. I couldn't hear the crew's side of the conversation.

Nice sequence on the Dunsmuir cam.  It seems very close to the old arrival time of #10 the Shasta Daylight at 1:56 pm. Can the Coast Starlight make Portland by 11:15 pm?

I like after being stuck on the train at Lakehead passengers can barely wait to get a little fresh mountain air. No wait its time to fill your lungs up with some smoke. Well after all Dunsmuir is a butt stop.

Interesting section of track. Looks very similar to the north side of Siskiyou Summit.
