Western Railroad Discussion > Cal Northern(ex SP west Valley) floodingDate: 02/18/17 12:19 Cal Northern(ex SP west Valley) flooding Author: mleland Since I can't attach pics from my phone....
Maxwell, Ca has water over the rail and flooding most of town proper. Pic I saw showed some buildings in town with several feet of water inside. Posted from Android Date: 02/18/17 12:27 Re: Cal Northern(ex SP west Valley) flooding Author: callum_out Nah, just an illusion. Seriously, I remember driving up 5 through Williams one afternoon, going home
to Redding where the water was in the median, and on both sides for miles. I imagine that Tehama is in deep trouble along with a mile or so back all the way down to the Yolo Bypass. Not good. When I sold my house in Redding it was in the 500 year flood plain, wonder if this is going to be that year. I think it is from someone in a plane. This pic was also posted elsewhere.
This is just north of Williams, CA. That is the Cal Northern in the foreground and I-5 in the middle. Mike Date: 02/18/17 14:50 Re: Cal Northern(ex SP west Valley) flooding Author: sphogger Stay tuned. Things may get much worse...flood impacts not seen in many years, Central Valley levees at risk,
10" of rain in the Feather River watershed "bullseye". from Daniel Swain weatherwest.com twitter feed. http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/socialmedia.php?wfo=sto Date: 02/18/17 18:41 Re: Cal Northern(ex SP west Valley) flooding Author: CPRR Nothing a steam locomotive can't handle.....

I wonder if they'll ever realized that they need back up routes for back up routes to save the day two months every decade...

http://sacramento.cbslocal.com/2017/02/18/maxwell-evacuated-due-to-flooding/ Notice in photo #2 posted above that there is more water in the field than in the creek. That area has some really strange and very deep drainage around the RR bridges. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 02/18/17 19:49 by TCnR. Floods are awful!. Now we all really, really want the dry season to begin -- NOW. Date: 02/18/17 23:37 Re: Cal Northern(ex SP west Valley) flooding Author: CA_Sou_MA_Agent portlander Wrote:

Yeah, if it hadn't been for so much track being abandoned, they could have routed trains over the Central California Traction between Stockton and Sacramento (since the SP and WP lines had issues), run them over Donner, turn north at Fernley and take the Modoc to Oregon! They should have asked me. I would have told them which lines to "rail bank." (disengaging tongue-in-cheek key) Date: 02/18/17 23:59 Re: Cal Northern(ex SP west Valley) flooding Author: SP4360 As long as you got rails under yer cab.

2-4 day delay on UP, or longer--customers decide to ship another way (truck). That's the differrence. Despite the record rains and floods, the highways still work, but the railroads are in gridlock. Cheers:) And to other comments, the railroad was only shut down for one day and that was because of the state issued, imminent "spillway failure" warning. |
