Now and Then - Martinez Ca
Author: casavoye

Zephyr recently posted a nice series of photos comparing the changes on the Santa Fe's Pasadena Sub as it looks now compared to how it looked many years earlier. These comparisons by our contributors are the posts that I really look forward to seeing. With Zephyrs inspiration, I dug out a few slides from the scanning tray and compared them to shots I took within the last few weeks it Martinez Ca.

Photo 1: Coal is running again to Richmond CA. Here a CSKLR drops off the bridge through the Shell Refinery
Photo 2: A late Cascade is shot at the same spot 45 years earlier ( I can't count that far back!! ) but with a wide angle lens rather than a telephoto.

2 more to follow.....

Continued:

Photo 3: IOGOA detours away from the Sac Sub due to the derailment at the Consumes River.  Here the train enters the curve approaching the old depot
Photo 4: A wild consist on a Westbound drag taken from outside the operators office at the old Martinez Depot

Thanks for sharing in some old ( I mean really old ) memories.

Both leaders in the Martinez photos look awful! The trailing unit in the Then would be great to see and hear today.
Thanks for the post.

Excellent comparisons between now and then Chip!  Really appreciate you digging into the old slide trays for those shots of the SPRR operations near Martinez.  Keep up the excellent work!
