Rotary today?
Author: Anglingthewild

Based off the previous thread, the UP is going to take the rotaries up the hill today for use this weekend. Are they heading out today? Is this still the plan? Any idea when they might be leaving?

Currently held at ROCKLIN due to issues clearing the AMtrak platform--9:44AM PT..
Rotary driver says he needs to run track 1 the whole way.
Being held for a Z train  (westbound i think )
fyi ROCKLIN is at MP 110 area on the Roseville Sub (Donner Pass) mainline.
This monitored at approx 9:44AM 2-24-17 friday on the broadcastify Sacramento Rocklin radio feed.

Wonder why Rocklin would be a problem--
platform there is near rail level, isn't it?

Colfax is a problem on track 2, tho, with
a platform six inches above top of rail.
Probably the gouge on the platform now
is from a rotary.

I thought they identified that problem and fixed it a couple years ago.

Just heard a detector on that scanner channel. Track 1, MP 111, 28 axles, speed 20 mph, temp 51 degrees. Could be the rotary??

Followed by Train 6 approaching Davis.

Wow--stuck at Rocklin?  They had this same problem years ago when the UP ran them for the 1st time in many years.  No one remembered?  Old heads would have known.

What's the train/engine number for the rotary?
I gather the line over Donner is open. Is the rotary just going to clear some of the snow walls in preparation for the next storms?

Maybe so-- I haven't been there lately.
If the platform's still six inches above
top of rail, the problem isn't fixed.
