I have not been in 20 years, but here is a list of places:

A list of accommodations in Chama can be found here: http://www.chamavalley.com/lodging.html
If you have difficulty finding space in Chama, there are hotels in Pagosa springs, 49 miles west of Chama, as well as Antonito, 48 miles east of Chama.http://www.visitpagosasprings.com/places-to-stay/hotels_motels

I was able to get a last minute room at the Branding Iron earlier this year during my also last minute trip to the C&TS. Great little motel, not expensive at all either.

Both places listed here are good places to stay and High Country is a decent place to eat.

Those hot springs in Pagosa Springs are well worth a side trip.

Maybe I am wrong, but I thought that "Wacky-roger1942" who posts NG steam photos was involved with a lodge at Chama.

Count me in on the Branding Iron.  All that jointauthority said and you won't be disappointed.

If you have a camper, the Rio Chama Campground is one of the nicest you'll find anywhere, and it's just a short walk to the Enginehouse.  Here's a picture of the Fred Jukes Tree, taken from my campsite!

The Wild Horse Casino & Hotel in Dulce, New Mexico (27 miles west of Chama) is also a very nice place to stay.

He and his wife are the owners of The Hotel & Shops, literally across the street from the depot. Almost everything in the building is original from the 1930s. We enjoyed our stay there last July (trip photos here).

Correction:

Roger's joint is the "The Hotel & Shops".

Formerly the Shamrock Hotel.  Some of the crews stayed here when laying over in the bad old days.  With that in mind, it IS an old hotel.  Amenities are somewhat minimal, but it is clean and a nice place.

Right across the street from the C&TS Depot.

Nice big porch that faces the roundhouse.  Nice place to sit in the evenings with a favorite adult beverage in hand, contemplating the universe.

There is also a list of lodging on the C&TS website.
