Repainted BNSF SD75's on the move
Author: bnsfsd70

On Saturday afternoon, I caught the Knoche Yard-Argentine Yard transfer in Kansas City, MO with two of the recently repainted SD75's in tow.  The first unit is SD75M #254, while the second is SD75I #283, and the paint work was done at Mid-America Car.  Currently, the stacks were still capped, and I believe that they will be heading to Progress Rail in Mayfield, KY for further rebuild work.  I know that the crews may not be thrilled with these units, but from a railfan's perspective, they look great!

The first photo was taked of the 254 at MAC on Wednesday, March 8th, along with one of a large number of CREX units that were there.  By Saturday, the Citirail units were all gone.

Thanks for looking!
- Jeff Carlson

Painting over the windshield frames and windscreen wiper arms spoils the look and smack of thoughtless masking-up in the paintshop

What's old is new. They were renumbered from the 200s to the 8200s. Now, they are back in the 200s.

Yeah, because if there's anything that MAC is known for, it's its thoughtless work in the paint shop...

Looking nice. These units at least get washed down and scuffed up before repaint, right?

Yeah, because they were looking spectacular before they went in...

MAC doesn't do anything carelessly. You can bet they masked and painted as instructed by the owner of the units.

From a design standpoint, I absolutely see the need for black borders around the windshields and numberboards, but I'm definitely not complaining. I'm just happy to see these guys out and about again! Kudos to Mac for a job well done!

I'm surprised BNSF has kept these units after all the complaints about them.

Good luck with that as I hear they are slated for local service. Kinda takes all the interest out of the whole project!

I bet the crews will complain at having bright orange wiper arms moving across their field  of vision.  They'll get the rattle can treatment fairly quickly.

I am curious, too, why they are fixing these up when there were so many complaints about them, and they are letting more successful, and more standard MAC's go bye-bye? === === = === JLH

That only depends on where said local is running and how close that is to you!

You know, I had a feeling that someone would ask, so I took a few shots of their roofs.  Sure enough, they both had these sheet metal caps over the stacks.  This is standard (non) operating procedure for BNSF's units that are in long-term storage.
