Western Railroad Discussion > One From Moffat Today

This morning, I had to run to Denver for something so on the way back home, I swung by Moffat to see if there was anything. I overheard on the scanner of an eastbound BNSF train at Plainview and a westbound BNSF train getting ready to depart Denver. After fighting through typical Denver area traffic, I got to Leyden as the BNSF eastbound train was taking the siding to meet its counterpart. I decided to go to the overlook above Big Ten Curve and patiently waited for the westbound BNSF train. I then proceeded down into Coal Creek Canyon along Blue Mountain Road.

• Scattered clouds rolling off of the mountains have created various pockets of sunlight in the area as BNSF's westbound Denver-Provo manifest goes through one of those pockets of sunlight at Rocky just west of Denver.
• The BNSF manifest can be seen climbing up the 2-percent through Coal Creek Canyon. Today's Denver-Provo manifest was the perfect size as both the head end and DPUs were perfectly placed as the train is about to enter Tunnel 1 and clear the Blue Mountain Road crossing.
