Western Railroad Discussion > "The Door" at Exit 16 at KCUSDate: 03/24/17 11:19 "The Door" at Exit 16 at KCUS Author: JoCoLB The platform entranceway at Exit 16 is the only door at Kansas City Union Station that bears the names of a couple of former railroad company passenger trains and a listing of the major cities those trains would visit on each departing run. The placement of those signs at that door was a nice touch to the grand old station when it was totally renovated in the late 1990s.
If only those platform doors at KCUS could talk? (Photos by Larry Byers) Date: 03/24/17 11:26 Re: "The Door" at Exit 16 at KCUS Author: King_Coal Nice touch. Katy Flyer must have had an interesting route - maybe not necessarily in that order!

The original green canvas banners were used to indicate train number (s) etc. as well as stations and destinations for each train, similar to many other large stations. Not all stations were listed but the sign makers did the best they could in the space available. A nice look back at a terrific station! Yes, Pittsburg, KS, world headquarters of Watco Companies who operate many shortlines in the US and Australia. The old KCS locomotive shops in Pittsburg are gone but football is doing rather well.
