Spring has arrived in the Nevada Desert
Author: sp1827ml

Here's a look at an eastbound z train at MP 265, Thisbe NV, from my commute to work this morning.

Oh, that is a pretty picture! Such a nice picture
of a pretty area in Nevada that is very comfortable
to be in, away from the rush-rush-rush and pressures
of modern city life, with just the desert and a few
trains now and then, and oneself. Looks like a good
place to mellow out in, which we all need from time
to time.

A photographs like this one is a real treasure, and it
gives me that nice mellow feeling every time I look at it.

Thank you, Mark!

that train must have been long and heavy to require 4
locomotives on the point. Did it have a DPU? Thanks!

Oooops! Yup -- THREE units, silly me!
I always count the fuel tanks, too.

Still a really nice photo!

Thanks Margaret. This train did in fact have 2 DPU's. The power was set up as a 3X1X1 arrangement.

ZLTG2s are usually 3x1 but the 3x1x1 arrangement is sometimes used on longer trains. One of the dp units is usually placed just ahead of the trailers. UP has even gone to using a dp unit on ZOAG2s now, which seems silly due to those trains not being all that big.

Interesting area for a photograph, thanks for the post.

I used to like pulling into this spot . It was pleasant with its cottonwood trees and shade. I never was patient enough though to wait for a train to get a picture.

Very nice picture, my commute to work certainly isn't that interesting and photogenic.
