Weekend trip out to Tehachapi-Day 2, Part 2
Author: SP8595

Continuing with the series taken on Friday, April 21st.
After lunch, we got word of a Westbound BNSF Unit cottonseed train and since these trains are pretty unique consisting of all Woodchip cars, we made it a point to go after this guy!

1) BNSF 8396, BNSF 7115 and CSXT 3322 head through Cameron with 100 cars of cottonseed. The train had three mid-train helpers and pair of engines on the rear. Pretty heavy stuff, much heavier than cotton:}

We next hustled over to Walong and I hiked around on some hills but I think I should have been on the next hill to the West but I just didn't quite have enough time to get up there.

2) UP 8079, 7611 and 5803 struggle uphill below Walong with a Roseville to W. Colton manifest train.

3) Just as the UP manifest train was heading through Walong, the BNSF cottonseed train was slowly proceeding down the siding.

4) The rear helpers on the UP manifest were a pair of ACe's, the UP 8538 and 9033 and are seen down below as the head end power on the train works up towards the new cut besides Tunnel #10. The mid-train DP's on the BNSF train are seen behind the UP power.

5) From the top of the hill, I turned to the West and shot Union Pacific's Lathrop to LATC Z-train heading through Woodford.

6) UP 7434 and 4372 were leading the Z-train and are also seen working uphill at the bottom of the Loop.

7) Running right behind Union Pacific's Z-train was BNSF's hotshot, the Z NBYWSP with BNSF 8283, 7681, 5079 and 7042 also seen at the bottom of the loop.

8) Finally the cottonseed train proceeded West after meeting the three trains at Walong. I almost got all three power sets in this shot and again, if I had hiked the next hill to the West, I think it would have worked out much better. Oh well, there's always next time:}

9) We drove over to Tunnel #2 to again caych the cottonseed train at the West switch at Bealville.

10) The rear helpers on the cottonseed train, have just exited out of Tunnel #2.

11) Now at Bealville, Union Pacific's ZLCBRC-21 with the UP 8046, 6506 and 4966 head West with the rear DP seen above entering Tunnel #5.

12) Another view splitting some Oak trees.

Now time for some Mexican food with five other railfans. A good time capping off a pretty productive day:}

Really great series of photos John. At least you had trains & sunshine when you were there.

Great bunch of shots and locations. It is amazing how a little bit of climbing can change the look of Bealville and Caliente. Really nice.
