Trains on the GWR and a cold 844
Author: upheritage6

Yesterday myself and three other friends went North to Laramie to catch UP 844 returning to Cheyenne from Boise. We went through Fort Collins to go on 287 to Laramie. We got stopped by a GWR empty sand train with a Sante Fe C44-9W warbonnet and a BNSF ES44 for power stopped at the switch. We were there for a good few minutes taking photos and left. After we left, we say two Ex CN GP40-2Ws with one loaded hopper. We screwed around for about an hour or so and still had time to get to Laramie an hour and a half before 844 did, and it was on time. The weather looked ominous when we were on 287. But it was just rain. We left Laramie before 844 did because we wanted to get ahead of the foam parade. Our first location after that was Granite. We caught a UP stack train with a Tier 4 and two CSX units. Then the next train was the Boise Turn. After that, we caught it just before the switch at Borie where it would go up track three. Then once more in Cheyenne.
1) BNSF 680 idles at fort Collins awaiting a track warrant into the yard.
2) OMLX 9522 and a sister lead one sand hopper to the switch.
3) the plow and steamer out side of the station in Laramie.
There's more!

5) I thought id get creative with the Laramie sign and the 535
6) UP SD40N 1871 idles away as it waits for its next task in Laramie.
more to come!

8) With people pushing and shoving for their shots on the bridge, we al watch as 844 chuffs into Laramie.
9) UP stack train with a couple of Harrison's finest.

10) With lots of steam covering the rest of the train, UP 844 howls as it passes Granite. The shot may look grainy but that was just the snow and rain blowing around.
11) Just another angle of 844 in B&W
12) UP 844 crawling to the signal at Borie.

Nice photos Noah. Looks like quite a fine chase and covered lots of material. Thanks for showing the shots.
