Heads up! Dirty dirt train SB through Menlo Park @ 1:30 pm today
Author: Margaret_SP_fan

We saw a southbound dirty dirt train in Menlo Park, CA,
today -- Wed., May 17, 2017, with 3 UP locomotives pulling
it. Sorry -- I do not have the numbers. It actually had
to stop for around 5 minutes or so -- I don't know why.
Blocked all 3 grade crossings in Menlo Park -- Encilan,
Glenwood, Oak Grove, and Ravenswooo.

She will be on her way through the Feather River Canyon
in due time -- I have no idea when that will be.

This is the first freight I have seen "up close and
personal" in a long time. We were probably the only
people who had to wait for the train to get going who
actually enjoyed seeing it!

A few of the cars had markings that said something like
:"MAXIMUM TEMPERATURE 250 F". Those cars may have ,bveen'
made out of aluminum.

Happy chasing and good luck in getting photos of this
somewhat unusual train!

Power was UP 6875, 5577, 5816. I think the reason they had to stop there was that they were following a southbound Caltrain that was having mechanical issues and had to stop.

If anyone's interested, this train passed Keddie at 8:59 am this morning.

JPBX --
Thank you for the info. For some reason, I never
thought that that Caltrain ahead of the dirty dirt
train had a problem. It must have been a relatively
minor problem, because the dirty dirt train was only
stopped for a very short time -- like 5 minutes.
