Springtime on the Joint Line ?
Author: 3rdswitch

. . . This is the latest it has snowed on the joint UP BNSF Denver Pueblo Joint Line main since moving to Palmer Lake in summer '09. Noticed one lined south a while ago so headed out before it gets worse as it is still coming down hard and supposed to go through tonight. A southbound BNSF coal load was climbing through the "sag" two miles north of Palmer Lake (top) and again after topping the grade descending a mile south of Palmer Lake (bottom).

Well, if that train is coming all the way to Fort Worth that snow will certainly melt in our 90° weather we are having right now!

Great shots, thanks for taking them and sharing.

And that train will weigh more than it did in Wyoming.

And if you were driving a big trk That extra weight of the snow could and probably would earn ya an overweight ticket. Nice shots JB. Ben

Good to see you got out!

Since keeping data from 1997 here in Castle Rock, the latest snow I have seen in May was a TR on May 25, 2002, and 0.3" May 23/24, 2007. A 4.5" was recorded on May 20, 2001. All of those events likely resulted in snow at Palmer Lake.

When pulling the May data from my spreadsheets, I didnt notate a June snow that we had, so cant put the date down, but at least once in the last 20 years I did record snow in June for my Castle Rock location.

Congratulations on Image of the Day.  Your subject line reminded me of an old Johnny Horton song, When it's springtime in Alaska (it's 40 below)...
