Western Railroad Discussion > WSOR Sunday morning railsDate: 05/21/17 05:02 WSOR Sunday morning rails Author: GBW309 Here are a few WSOR images to start the day off with. WSOR is the result of many former Milwaukee Road and Chicago and Northwestern lines, in the state of Wisconsin, being consolidated and operated by a single railroad. WSOR also has trackage rights into Chicago's clearing yard which assures access to multiple interchange partners. WSOR (now Watco) has a complex operating agreement with the state of Wisconsin. The state owns several of the lines and leases them to WSOR. The state also infuses cash to finance a great deal of the upgrades that were needed to keep these lines open. Without the backing of the state, many of these lines would now be bike trails! 12/02/2006
1. Janesville bound train from the original WSOR "northern division" at Whitewater, WI. These trains are quite lengthy, usually around 100 cars and always had plenty of power. 2. Another Janesville bound train departing Madison, WI crossing John Nolen Drive. The ballast pit at Rock Springs, WI ( home of the famous CNW pink lady ballast) was still shipping by rail at this time. The lead unit is one of many SD40's that WSOR resurrected from different dead lines. Units came from NdeMexico, Union Pacific, BN, CNW, and former EMD lease units. WSOR's Horicon facility was capable of resurrecting the dead! 4/28/2007 3. Chicago train departing Janesville, WI, crossing the Rock River on former Milwaukee Road trackage. 12/30/2007 Enjoy!
