UP's Phoenix Night Train
Author: SouthWestRailCams

After picking up the twins from their Grandma's last night, we ran into UP 8723 East sitting in the middle of the crossing at Broadway Rd and Center here in Mesa.  The train was APXLDR-17 (Auto-Phoenix-Laredo-Reposition).  Today out of all days, there was no camera gear but our Cell Phones, so they had to do the work!  Here are a few shows and a video of this train last night!
The consist was UP 8723 (EMD SD70ACe) with DPU: UP 8481 (EMD SD70ACe) on UP's Phoenix Subdivision (MP 923).  Taken on: 2017.06.17 @ 10:28 PM.

A few more and video next.

Thanks for posting. Is Yuma to Phoenix still mothballed? I heard trains run on parts of it from each end! Thanks! TIM

Yes, the line between Phoenix and Yuma I believe is still Out of Service, however being used for storage just west of Buckeye I believe?  There is a local that runs from Yuma to Wellton then into the Roll Industrial Area using the other end of the line.  Any trains leaving Phoenix to West Colton, go East to Picacho and then take the west leg of the Wye to Yuma.  Same with the West Colton to Phoenix trains, go all the way to Picacho Wye then head up the Phoenix Sub.

Thanks Larry!  For now it is not a quiet zone however The City Of Mesa got the Approval for Quiet Zone for ALL Crossings, however the Crossings all need to be upgraded, so far they only upgraded Dobson Rd Crossing.
