Western Railroad Discussion > C&IM on BNSF Ottumwa SubDate: 06/24/17 13:03 C&IM on BNSF Ottumwa Sub Author: Agent By happenstance, I saw an eastbound BNSF mixed freight train east of Agency, Iowa at 1:17 PM today. The first four units looked like two BNSF Dash 8s and two BNSF Geeps. This could be the local 664 running at an atypical time. The fifth engine said C&IM on the long hood. It had the number 303, and its reporting mark could be LTEX. Anyone know more about this unit?
Anyway, maybe this post will work as a heads-up for someone. For what it's worth, here a few of the grab shots I managed to get. Chicago & Illinois Midland bought a few (5 I think) of those in 1996 right before they sold themselves to Genesee & Wyoming. As one last hurrah, (and possible to give the middle finger to G&W) they painted them in C&IM green and brought their trademark red lightening bolt that they did away with years prior. G&W moved a few of them to other properties and kept one on Illinois & Midland (the G&W version of C&IM) until 2013 when it and the two ex. C&IM SD18s left Central Illinois for an Indiana shortline. G&W finally rounded up all of them and sold them to LTEX last year. I guess that one is going to a new home.

They now run it out of Galesburg instead of West Quincy. It would pick up and set out locomotives for Relco at Albia.

Relco in Albia is generally served by the Galesburg to Lincoln manifest.
