Virginian RR loco
Author: CPRR

Over on Altamont Press there is a thread about a old Virginian Railroad loco being donated to the Illinois Rail Museum. Quite a uniquely built machine. I did not know any of the equipment survived after the railroad's demise. Anyone know if there are any more survivors out there?

(I think) Vgn 4 <0-8-0>  might be the loco that some are referring to. wag216

They are referring to the former Virginian
electric locomotive, and GE "E33", built om
Oct., 1956, and most recently the Conrail 4601,
which is on her way to the IRM. She is a very
rare example of an electric Virginian locomotive.
(I didn't know they had electric locomotives,
and that one even survives to this day is amazing
and wonderful!

This is what she looks like now:

I hope some day she will look like new, and maybe will even
be able to ru at IRM! Hope springs eternal.....

The only surviving Virginian steam locomotive:

Also the same class of electric motor that IRM is acquiring:

I wonder if IRM might paint its motor as New Haven. Besides Virginian or New Haven, it could chose N&W, Penn Central, or Conrail.
