Chasing trains around Eugene, OR
Author: CBRL

Thought it would be fun to do some chasing this morning, and the first up was at Meadowview, north of Eugene, with the UP 7816 South leading three at the point with four mid-train DPUs and 109 cars.

1. Rolling through the country north of town

2. Mid-train DPUs

3. Thought the light would be good at Dougren, about 30 miles south, so headed down there and found the RVPT sitting in the siding lead by UP 4157. Approaching in the far distance is a van with a new crew.

More to come.

4. 4157 getting ready for run-by

5. UP 7816 approaching on the main

6. Rolling past the RVPT

Against my better judgement, I went back out in the hot afternoon sun.

7. The RVPT seen at Dougren earlier finally coming into Eugene in the afternoon at Madison Street.

8. BNSF 3810 and a long, loaded grain train running 2 by 5 by 2 at Monroe Street in Eugene. It had been waiting for other trains to clear before leaving town.

9. An empty grain train lead by UP 5300 with CP 9700 and CP 8943 trailing.

Thanks for looking.

Well, it's nice to see crews still can't get from Klamath Falls to Eugene in 12-hours - some things never change.

One glitch is the rail gang working around Chiloquin. They likely have traffic in a mess. Their equipment is parked in just about available spot. Their flat cars occupy Modoc Point siding.

Brian,

Did not chase that grainer - just caught it as it was leaving town in a bad spot. Here is a crop with a little more of the train and two shots of the 5 units of all-EMD (and all-UP) mid-train power.
