BNSF's Clown Car Update
Author: bnsfsd70

This afternoon, I stopped by BNSF's Topeka shops and found this car sitting outside, completely devoid of any lettering. This is one of the two cars they had purchased from the Ringling Brothers train, the RBBX 41404.

The 41404 had previously been the SCL 6406, nee-SAL 52 "Pinehurst," a 5 DBR - 1 Comp - 4 Sect - 4 Roomette sleeper.

Photo 2 shows the car in late June in the condition that it arrived in.

Big thanks to Charlie Martin for the heads up on this one!

Thanks,
- Jeff Carlson

Removing all of the circus markings was part of the condition of sale from Ringling Brothers/Feld Entertainment.

Looks good. Still has the roof conduit.

I see that. Was that some sort of Circus Train-specific thing for powering the cars?

That's the circus version of HEP. It went up on the roof, unlike most Amtrak cars where the HEP cables are routed under the cars.

Two days later, it's time for a further update!

The car has now been lettered for the BNSF as the BNSF 61, although it does not have a name yet. From what I understand, it'll be heading out of Topeka shortly for the Pacific Northwest.

From what I understand, yes. It'll just be providing sleeping space for the crew.
