Joliet area rail traffic
Author: Ntrainfan

Hello, I visited the Joliet, IL depot occasionally between 15 and 10 years ago and remember quite busy rail traffic. I visited a couple of weeks ago, from noon until 4PM and only saw three BNSF freights and the usual routine of Metra trains. It seems to me that BNSF freight traffic past the depot has dropped off quite a bit. Is this my imagination, or true, and are there better times of day to railfan there. The new station should be nice once it's all done, and I wonder how the tower figures into the new plan.
Thanks to everyone in advance for your thoughts.

Toward the end of the week is your busiest time. Early morning and late afternoon into evening is generally the busiest time on a daily basis. Dan

Thanks, Dan, I'll keep that in mind! Still a nice place to watch trains and I saw a sign on the old depot that a craft beer bar will open there soon.
