SP rotary operating with an SP GP9 and SP caboose in 2017???
Author: zephyrus

Yes, yes indeed.

Last Saturday, a documentary film crew came to the Western Pacific Railroad Museum at Portola to record footage of our SP MW208 rotary in operation. Our volunteer mechanics went above and beyond spending several weeks ahead of this visit getting our rotary out of "stored serviceable" and into top notch running condition.

MW208 and its snail were pushed by SP GP9 2873 still wearing Kodachrome paint and paired with recently restored SP caboose 4706. (Yes, an all SP consist in WP country. :-D )

Several run bys were made and the film crew crawled over and documented every inch of this amazing machine.

Thank you to the FRRS volunteers who made this happen and to the membership whose support keeps us going.

If we get some snow this winter, who knows what might happen!

A well traveled machine. Here's some stories including SPMW 208 told by JLY:

And thanks to JLY and others we have been able to update and get more accurate with our history of this rotary over the last two years.

We're looking forward to winter. If we get a good snow, we may be able to do some special event with the 208!

even with no snow, she's a real beast! Now THAT is

We just shot these short clips. Once the documentary comes out, we'll see if it is something we can stock.
