Western Railroad Discussion > Planes & TrainsDate: 09/24/17 11:31 Planes & Trains Author: jimB The Seattle has a few good places for getting photos of planes and trains in the same photo. In this case, the power for the local that switches the Boeing plant at Paine Field, Everett WA is sitting underneath a British Airways 787-8 landing after a pre-delivery flight last Tuesday. The very steep (4%+) branch that serves the plant comes off the main at Mukilteo.
The second shot a second or two later with a Russian Air Bridge Cargo 747-8F holding short waiting to depart on its delivery flight with an Air Force KC-46 and an unidentified (by me) 787 in the background. All were produced behind the painted doors in the photo. Jim B Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/24/17 12:11 by jimB. Date: 09/24/17 12:12 Re: Planes & Trains Author: jimB Dan, thanks. Yes, of course it was a 747-8F holding. I have corrected it.

Date: 09/25/17 12:47 Re: Planes & Trains Author: Margaret_SP_fan Those are gorgeous shots, Jim!! Thank you very much
for taking them and posting them here. those planes are gorgeous -- much beautiful shape! And yes, that wing flex is impressive! But only what an aircraft is designed to do. Still amazing to see. I loves me the 747!! What a beauty! And the ROAR their engines make is incredible!! Date: 09/25/17 13:36 Re: Planes & Trains Author: SPMemphisFreight Margaret_SP_fan Wrote:

United is about to retire their last 747. It will fly from Seoul to San Fran on Nov 7. Flight Attendants will be in period garb. And yes, it's sold out! https://www.avweb.com/avwebflash/news/United-Gives-747-Special-Send-Off-229647-1.html Date: 09/25/17 15:25 Re: Planes & Trains Author: truxtrax SPMemphisFreight Wrote:

Larry Dodgion Wilsonville, OR Date: 09/25/17 20:56 Re: Planes & Trains Author: jimB Margaret, those new 747-8's don't roar as much as you might expect. The 787 & 747-8 engines (same) are very quiet. A 777 is much louder taking off.
The next generation of 777's will use composite wings like the 787 but longer. The flex on them may be impressive! They will have a folding wing tip capability. I do hope to drive up the road to SFO to get photos of the last 747-400 flight. That's if my daughter's due date doesn't intervene! I hope she has as easy a tome as I did, and that the little darling will be healthy and fine. Her first? And I do hope the little one does not arrive until a bit after that Nov. 7 UAL 747 retirement arrival! Yeah, I have noticed that the relatively few aircraft that now fly over my home on their way to SFO are not all that loud. Rather disappointing to me, but time does march on, and sooner, rather the later, the very last 747 to fly over my home will have flown into history. I will never, ever forget the night a little less than 2 years ago when I went outside to hear a rather loud aircraft -- and it was a 747-400, at around 5,000 feet AGL! The ROAR her 4 big FE engines made was incredible!! It filled the air from top to bottom with the most beautiful and awe-inspiring and deep and majestic sounds that I had ever heard. And not even one tiny part of that sound was unpleasant; the whole symphony was gorgeous and full and resonant. THAT 747's engines had incredible "gravitas"! And as she got farther away, the echoes of her engines rolled away and sounded like the deepest and softest very deep bass drum ever made -- and those beautiful deep and soft echoes kept on for some time. I will never, ever forget that as long as I live. |
