Western Railroad Discussion > Question: Dunsmuir area bridge repairDate: 09/25/17 12:53 Question: Dunsmuir area bridge repair Author: mile250 This spring a derailed car of a UP freight damaged one end of a through-truss bridge over the Sacramento River near Castella/Dunsmuir, closing the line for several days. Does anyone have information on (especially images of) the repair process? Were damaged elements cut out and replaced? Was temporary bracing used? Does anyone know in general how such repairs are carried out? I ask in preparation for teaching an introductory course in the civil engineering aspects of railroads.
