Reactivated DASH 9 at a pair of new locations...
Author: z-trains

This afternoon I decided to make a run up to Colton, California, to hang out, get out of the house on my day off, and catch some trains. Nothing much was going on the BNSF due to track work so I switched over to the UP and immediately saw a westbound coal train, either from Nogales or Rillito, Arizona, heading towards the east leg of the wye up the Mojave subdivision. Quickly backtracking to Rancho while the coal train recrewed, I caught the recently reactivated C44-9W leading an early-build SD70M on the long hopper train as it came off the Colton flyover, approaching the east leg of the wye. Hitting traffic, I wasn't able to grab it at the south end of Dike as originally planned but tried for another spot on top of the Glen Helen Road overpass and, eh. Too many wires and too high of trees prevented a good shot, I included it anyways for documentation purposes.

Cheers,

Zach

Where is the main use of C44-9Ws that are left running?

That was the CGUSV from Nogales, AZ returning to Utah. The new export train.

Oh ok! I was under the impression that those trains used rotary dump hoppers, but I guess the port in Mexico doesn't have a rotary dump?
