I never knew...

…that old BN switchers had wind sock/light poles growing out of their stacks!

My other title option for this thread was: “Photo-editing things you can do when it’s a stormy, rainy, thundering Saturday morning and you are cooped up inside with No Particular Place to Go-with apologies to Chuck Berry!” But something tells me this neat & tidy little title may not fit in TO’s title box.

Speaking of old BN switchers… I took this pure grab shot yesterday in Topeka only because of the green color. I spent all of 5 seconds shooting it, because I actually had to roll the window down. You never know when an old paint scheme like this will get repainted or retired & removed from the active roster, or whatever. I got the shot, then I just moved on. And I have no idea where this switcher is going or what its disposition might be. It was coupled on behind 3 regular road units sitting in Topeka Yard.

It wasn’t until I got home and put the image up on the monitor that I noticed the utility pole/exhaust stack illusion. So I decide to do some creative photo-editing during the crummy weather going outside. While I was fooling around I also removed a few other unsightly objects. Like wires and weeds and whatnot…

1. & 2. BNSF 3403, in Cascade Green paint & GN lettering sits in Topeka, KS on Friday the 13th in October of 2017.

Enjoy your day! It’s back to never-ending scanning chores for your truly

Nice catch and photoshop. That GN lettering is killing me, 47 years after the BN merger?

But Lance... you left the graffiti on the car in the back... :(

Nice work, anyway!

I never thought I'd see it on the side of a locomotive without the use of Photoshop. It's an extremely bizarre thing to hear these crews on these engines talking to dispatchers on the radio.

Nice photos, Lance, of that little SW1500 in
Cascade green. You're right -- photograph
loco like that before the RR decides to repaint
them.

Love the PhotoShopping! Maybe you could Edit
the pix to remove the graffiti?

Info on railpictures.net photos of this engine
says that she is a former Frisco locomotive,
built in 1968. Her sister, who she works with,
the GN 3418, was also built for the Frisco, but
in 1969. (This is from info on a photo of both
engines in railpictures.net.)

Somebody just put the wind sock up there to match the orange wheels.

Seriously, superb work. I almost didn't mention it, but I know you have a good sense of humor.

Thanks for posting it. Those (Cascade?) green engines are getting rarer by the year.

Should have Photoshoped out the building while you were at it.

UP has UPY and BNSF has GN for their yard engines. It's a numbers thing!

Never would have guessed BNSF's SW1500's would have outlasted the ex-SP flock on UP. Then again, the same thing happened with SD9's.

And with the crappy AAR switcher trucks to boot.
