You know, there is nothing "Happy" about Veterans or as it's known in the British Commonwealth, Remembrance Day.
This is a day that we honor the ones who didn't come back. Honor, yes. But nothing to be happy about.

Aren't the veterans that didn't return honored on Memorial Day? Today is for ALL veterans. Be that as it may, thank you all for your service.

Absolutely CORRECT! Today is for honoring the living veterans, and this it is a "Happy Day" for those of us that did serve our great country, and are still alive.

Now, Memorial Day is a whole different situation, and is all about REMEMBERING/ACKNOWLEDGING all those that made the ultimate sacrifice for our great country! There is NOTHING "happy" about Memorial Day, in my opinion.

And the origin of Veteran's Day is Armistice Day, the official end of World War I in 1918 (thanks to my history teachers, and friends, especially veterans). I guess the implied logic is this: armistice -> peace -> soldiers coming home.

This topic was brought up in a typical water cooler discussion many years ago with an Air Force veteran. I've worked with and still work with quite a few veterans, and I'm impressed with their humility about their service. He told me pretty much what's said here - if you want to celebrate us, do it on Veteran's Day (and not on Memorial Day).

Well, anyway here are a couple views of a military train. Santa Fe 950 is eastbound at Cosnino, AZ on 10/1/1994. Again, THANK YOU for all you veterans who have served our great country!
