UP Ballast Train Peoria IL
Author: mtzctrain

Back on October 21, I was in Peoria for the weekend and had a couple hours to kill, so I headed trackside. There wasn't a whole lot moving in the area, but I heard the UP dispatcher give a track warrant to a train, so I headed to Reservoir Rd to wait. This is on a pretty good hill coming out of the Peoria river valley, so you can hear the train grinding up the hill for about a mile before it comes into view. The fall colors were showing some on the trees, so that was a bonus (we didn't have much of a fall here around central IL)..

I must have waited for a half hour before the train finally showed up, which turned out to be a loaded ballast train.
Enjoy the video of this GE/EMD duo grinding up the hill!

Here are a few photos to go with the video:

1. UP 7385 and UP 4224 grinding up the hill with some fall color starting to show in the background.

2. The train crossing Reservoir Rd.

3. The train makes a right-hand curve a little farther up the line and disappears on its way North.

Thanks for looking!

All but two cars had Spokane International reporting marks, pretty cool!
